In her designs, An tries to create a balance between beauty, respect for the existing context and the use of sustainable elements.
She graduated as an architect from the Henry van de Velde Institute (now UAntwerpen) and then obtained a postgraduate degree in architecture and urban planning from the Royal University College of Fine Arts and Architecture in Stockholm. In recent years, An worked in larger offices in Antwerp. Before this experience, she worked in several offices in Stockholm, where she lived and worked for five years.
Today, she designs and builds smaller projects with her own agency DAUW Collectief, which she founded together with Leen De Brabandere in 2020. Besides her own projects, she also engages in collaborations with murmuur architects and Endeavour, among others.
Additionally, An has been active at the University of Antwerp since 2017, where she teaches (practical assistant) in the first year of architecture. She also offers academic support to students.
Furthermore, An is very passionate about creating illustrations for children’s books, poetry collections, making cards and posters. A big part of An’s heart also lies in making sculptures that always tell stories about life, love, relationships, sadness and connections. These are mirrors of special moments in An’s life, events that have already been, moments in the now or moments yet to come. All sculptures are formed from natural, unfinished, delicately found, bought and given material.
